In March we were proud to welcome local favorite Marci Landgraf of Muse Art Haus. Fresh off her win at the Hairbrained Video Awards, Marci joined us to share her knowledge on editorial hairdressing. Pulling from her years of experience with Sebastian and Muse she was able to share some wisdom she has picked up along the way.
Marci started off the day with a bit of hair history, going over the popular silhouettes and textures from the 1600’s all the way up to modern day. She then brought models on stage to demo a few different looks creating elaborate shapes and textures utilizing backcombing, braiding, yarn, and a smoothing brush.
She then brought out her famed hair dress and discussed some of the process that went into creating it. By combining several styling techniques she was able to backcomb hair pieces into a fabric she used to create the skirt of the dress. She then twisted wefts of hair into a yarn that she knitted into the bodice, creating a truly stunning work of art. The whole thing was held together using hairspray and bobby pins.
For the second part of the day the attendees were able to take the knowledge Marci had shared with them and apply it to their own models.
Stylists had to push themselves out of their comfort zone and learn to think in more abstract terms than they normally encounter in day to day salon life. At the end of the day, everyone was able to produce stunning looks, each one different from the next.
Thank you Marci, you are an incredible talent and we loved having you with us for the day.
